"Be sure to check the corneal thickness"

A growing number of people are thinking about "visual orthodontics" such as Lasik, Rasek, and lens implant to celebrate their winter vacation. On the other hand, many people hesitate to operate because of concerns about which method of surgery is appropriate for them, which medical institution they seek, and whether they are blind due to side effects. What are some precautions to be taken before surgery?

First of all, you should check if you have dry eye. Recently, the development of medical technology and medical devices has rarely resulted in serious side effects such as blindness after eye correction. However, many patients suffer from dry eye syndrome after surgery, which usually recovers, but those who had severe eye dryness before surgery can continue to feel uncomfortable. "These days, no one is blind due to eye correction, but people with severe dry eyes can suffer from eye dryness, which can further exacerbate symptoms, and can affect results such as clearly invisible objects after surgery," said Han Young-geun, 메이저사이트 head of SNU's Department of Blue eye.

If the cornea is thin or is short-sighted, surgery other than Lasik should be considered. Lasik is a method that separates the front part of a cornea and creates a slice, corrects the vision with a laser, and covers the slice again. If the cornea remaining after being cut is thin, the nearsightedness may recur, and in severe cases, the cornea core may swell up in the form of cones due to failure of the intraocular pressure. This can lead to blindness due to poor eyesight. It is difficult to maintain normal cornea thickness since ultra-high-resolution nearsightedness requires a lot of cornea to be cut.

"The normal cornea thickness is between 530 and 540 μm (0.53 and 0.54mm), and the amount of cornea being cut is less than 110 μm. Personally, we don't recommend Lasik if the cutting volume reaches 150 μm or the cornea is less than 480 μm. "It's different for each hospital, but it's better to consider other methods such as lens implantation because there are risks."

According to him, lens implantation is a method to try if Lasik or Lasek is difficult. In particular, there is a high risk of side effects, such as cataracts, glaucoma and cornea edema, and higher risk if they are at an altitude. "The good thing is that early detection of side effects can lead to a return to the original state," he added.

In addition, for glaucoma and cataract patients, eye correction can affect the treatment of the disease. "In particular, glaucoma keeps track of the internal pressure and performs treatments to lower the internal pressure. However, if LASIK surgery is performed, it is difficult to treat accurate diseases since pressure in the eye is measured at a low level."

"When choosing a medical institution, the focus should be on where the cornea thickness and remaining cornea thickness are explained," he said. "It is also good for hospitals that decide surgery considering the overall condition of the cornea. Pregnant women and people with certain diseases are difficult to treat after surgery, and severe atopic patients and keloid patients can slow their recovery.

"The surgery should be done when the eyes are no longer good. "Most high school graduates stop short-sightedness and astigmatism growth, but if the number of glasses has changed recently, it is better to postpone them."
